The Magrath Community Food Drive will be Saturday 25th Apr 2009

I have updated the Magrath Lions Club website with information on the upcoming community food drive to benefit the Lethbridge Food Bank. Double Takes

Although Magrath is a fairly small town, I know of at least three 'double takes' in town. Do you know of any more?

The first is Jim Blumel vs Jim (James) Blumell.

Jim with one L, son of Reed and Irene, works his own business as a cabinet maker and finish carpenter. He lives on 2nd Street West and his wife is named Dayna.

I emailed this weblink to my good friend Duane and he is going to do a short piece on this welovemagrath.com website thing in his newspaper. Cool eh.

Know Your History: Magrath was established in 1899 by workers recruited by Charles A. Magrath of the Alberta Railway and Irrigation Company. Under arrangement with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS, Mormon) in Salt Lake City, Utah, immigrants were advised that they could come to Canada and that work would be provided digging the 'Main Canal' (mostly by hand) from the US Border to Lethbridge. Half the pay that they would receive would be in money and the other half in land. This massive irrigation project also produced a flood of immigration from Utah and Idaho as the Mormon church strongly promoted settlement in southern Alberta.
