Consider Magrath as home town; however we live in Las Vegas, NV
Relationship Status: How do you know Magrath?
Relatives Live There, Used to Live There, Want to Live There
About Me:
I am married to Robert Newell and have six children, my youngest two being his biological children. Las Vegas has been our "resting" place now for 15 years and we will probably reside here for another three until our 15 year old graduates from high school. My oldest daughter, Millie, is 24 and lives here in town. She served a mission in the Lansing, Michigan Mission. My son, Jesse, is currently serving a mission in the New Hampshire, Manchester Mission, which covers Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and part of Nova Scotia. I have two high schoolers, Ryan and Austin who are 17 and 15 respectively and my two youngest, Annie-Lee and Jackson are 8 and 6. My children and my husband are my greatest treasures in life.
Favorite Magrath Memories:
Like Roger, I am old enough to remember the old church building and cultural hall that was once on the lot of the stake center. In it, we felt the Spirit of the Lord. This is where my testimony grew of the reality of Jesus Christ. This is where I attended primary, then seminary, MIA and had my wedding reception. It is also the place where my two older sisters had theirs - June and Vivian. How many of us "old folks" either had our wedding receptions there, or attended a myriad of others? I loved the elementary school and one of my first recollections there was reading the headline about "Man's first walk on the Moon" that was posted in the circular library. The parade in July was the highlight of every year and of course featured the Magrath Band which later became, The Spirit of Alberta, under the direction of Mr. Brockway . Band was THE outlet for many of us and more personally, my saving grace through HIgh School. Our family didn't have ANY relatives coming to Magrath from Calgary, and so my wise mom (Gunnild Andersen Fischer) adopted aunts and uncles for us. Most of our aunts and uncles have since passed on over these many years since leaving. It is sad however to see so many of what I call the foundation of Magrath leave to the other side. My sister, June Ririe, still resides in Magrath. She, with her husband, Rod, are "married" to the beautiful land of Magrath, a part of the "TRUE North, Strong and Free" and "where Great Prairies Spread". Love to my nephews, Dustin, Cody and Russell Ririe. True Canucks!
