Double Takes

Although Magrath is a fairly small town, I know of at least three 'double takes' in town. Do you know of any more?

The first is Jim Blumel vs Jim (James) Blumell.

Jim with one L, son of Reed and Irene, works his own business as a cabinet maker and finish carpenter. He lives on 2nd Street West and his wife is named Dayna.

Jim with two LL's. son of Mary-Margaret, works his own business as a general carpenter. He lives on 1st Street West and his wife is named Dale.

Jim Blumell was responsible for installing the new roof on the Town Hall and is contracted to work on the roof for the new museum. Jim Blumel says more than one person has come up to tell him what a good job he did on that job. He says he just smiles and says, Thanks!

The second I know of is Alice and Alice Stevenson. They are sister-in-laws, having married brothers Grant and Lewis. Their mother-in-law was also named Alice Stevenson.

Alice 'Sparky' Stevenson and her husband Lewis (now deceased) ran Stevensons Groceteria on main street for many years (now the location of Duncan Thomson's Law Office). 'Sparky' resides at the Diamond Willow Lodge now but for years taught highland dance and singing and even tennis.

Alice L Stevenson was married to Grant (now deceased). She now resides a block north west of the Diamond Willow in her own apartment.

At the last federal election, the polling station was located at the Diamond Willow Lodge. When Alice (Sparky) came to vote the out of town election officers were told, "Oh yes we know her. She is Alice Stevenson". An while later when Alice number two came in to vote, the officers were told again, "Oh yes we know her. She is Alice Stevenson", causing some temporary confusion - for them .. not for us.

The third I can think of right now is Big and Little Sven Jensen. These Sven's are not related except through the fact that they married sisters - so they are brothers in law. Little Sven (now deceased) is the father of current local resident Arne Jensen. He lived on 1st Ave South, and was a former mayor of Magrath. Big Sven resides on 1st Ave South as well and is the father of the current mayor of Magrath - Mayor Ken Jensen.

I am sure there are other potential similar/duplicate named people around. Are you one? Do you know any more?

My brother is named Brook Harker (formerly of Magrath). Our niece is named Brooke Harker. Up the street our cousin is also named Brooke Harker (daughter of Roy and Kathy).

I have a funny story...My maiden name is Kerns and when I was dating a kid from Cardston (many years ago), he called the school and asked for me. Apparently he was going to ask me to be his date for grad and he thought he would do it by getting me out of class and going to the office to answer the phone. But instead they called Sheri (sp?) Karren(s), who I believe was a teacher? to the phone. So he started talking to her thinking it was me and she became confused and thought it was a crank call. The funny thing was that she came to pick up some dinner buns from our bakery the next day and thats when I actually met her face to face and then things made sense to her.
